EARTHQUAKES AND THEIR CAUSE
Even though Satan may try to make you lazy, you should read this
booklet in its entirety.
THE EXCELLENCE OF
DUROOD
SHAREEF
The Beloved of Allah has stated, “He
who recites Durood a hundred times upon me, it is written between his
eyes that this person is free of hypocrisy and from the fire of hell and on
the day of Judgment, he will be in the company of the martyrs.”

EVEN THE PIOUS ARE PUNISHED
Hazrat’e Sayyiduna Malik bin Dinaar reports that Allah
commands the angels to deliver punishment to a certain village.
The angels then reply, “O Allah ! In that village there are also
your pious servants”. When Allah hears this, He replies, “When
you deliver the punishment to them, let me listen to their shrieks and
screams because their faces never changed when they saw those people
who were disobedient to Me.”

THE REASON THAT ONE
S DUA IS NOT ACCEPTED
In one Hadith, the Beloved of Allah
states that, “I swear by that Being in Whose power is my life, either you

command that which is good and prohibit that which is bad, or else
Allah will send His punishment to you and thereafter you will
make dua, but it will not be accepted.”

My Dear Islamic brothers! Have you not seen how necessary it is to
convey the message of doing good to those who are corrupted? By not
doing this even though one has the power to do so, the wrath of Allah
descends.
THE REASON FOR AN EVIL DICTATOR
Hazrat’e Sayyiduna Abu Darda narrates that, “You people
should continue propagating good or else a corrupt dictator will
overpower you. He will be a person who will show no mercy to your
young ones and the pious among you will make Dua and their Dua will
not be accepted. They will seek forgiveness but their plea will not be
accepted.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF DELIVERING GOOD ADVICE
There is no doubt that there is great importance in conveying good
advice. When Muslims become involved in sin and transgression, one
should strive to deliver and propagate good advice. Remember that he
who does not show the way to Salaah and goodness is himself not saved.
Today these people are those whose children are considered modern.
They watch films, songs, dance and play with kites. Those Muslims,
who do not stop others from doing evil, should carefully ponder upon
this advice.
Hazrat’e Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddique has stated that, “I
heard the Beloved of Allah state that,
‘If people see evil and do not change it, then very soon Allah will
send such punishment which will encompass everyone.”

WHEN IS IT
WAAJIB TO MAKE PEOPLE UNDERSTAND
My Dear Islamic Brothers! From this we can see that there is a terrible
warning for those who do not give good advice and do not prohibit that
which is evil. We should also remember that there are different
dimensions of giving good advice and prohibiting evil. Even though to
do so is considered desirable, at times it becomes Waajib to do so. If at
times we see someone doing evil and we are aware that if we stop him,
he will listen and obey, then it becomes Waajib to do so. We should
now inspect as to who is performing this waajib act. If you see someone
who is deliberately missing his Salaah with Jama’at (congregation) and
the person is younger than you, or a worker of yours or your son and
you are convinced that if you advise him, he would obey you and yet
you still do not give him good advice, then in this instance you would
become a sinful person. How tragic that this is continuing on a daily
basis. You have just read about those people who in spite of having the
power did not give others advice and the punishment that will befall
them.
ONE IS EVEN PUNISHED IN THE WORLD
Remember! At times because of sins and transgressions, punishment
also comes in the world. Such is the example of one who disobeys his
parents and makes their heart sore, it is stated that they are even
punished in the world. At first, a person is totally oblivious of this and
does not even care, yet when the punishment of Allah descends,
he becomes disgraceful in this world and becomes entitled for
punishment in the hereafter. At times, even if his parents forgive him,
he is still answerable to Allah . It is therefore necessary that one
should seek sincere pardon from Allah . There are also various
other sins and disobediences due to which calamities and difficulties
descend upon the earth.
A
FRIGHTENING EARTHQUAKE
Presently the difficult condition that our country is going through should
be carefully looked into. On Saturday during the month of Ramadhaan

1426ah (8/10/2005), in various western parts of Pakistan, at about
8:45am, a most frightening earthquake took place. This affected parts of
NWFP, Kashmir and even parts of Punjab. It is stated that nearly 200
hundred thousand people died and who knows the actual number.
Complete villages, rural communities and even parts of certain cities
become mere rubble and sand. Mountains turned upside down and fell
on inhabitants. No one knows how many people who were busy
laughing and playing were buried alive. How is it possible to count
these masses of people? If only we can keep this sight of the earthquake
in front of us when we perform evil otherwise, while performing this
evil, suddenly if an earthquake occurs, we will become squashed.
THE CAUSES OF THIS EARTHQUAKE
My Dear Islamic brothers! In Fatawa-e-Razawiyyah Volume 27, there is
a complete chapter on occurrences such as earthquakes, lightning, heavy
rain etc. Once it was asked of AlaHazrat as to what were
the causes of these natural disasters. AlaHazrat replied,
“Earthquakes are caused because of sins and disobedience.” In other
words, when a community increases in sin, earthquakes happen. Does it
mean that there was only sin in Kashmir! Certainly not. It is the Infinite
Mercy of Allah that an earthquake did not occur in the entire
country. You all know that even now the entire country is immersed in
sin and disobedience. All of you know that even in Baab-ul-Madina a
few days ago, a few tremors were even felt. People became afraid and
appeared on the road sides. Even in Baab-ul-Madina Karachi, there is
sin and disobedience taking place. Who is able to give advice? Even
parents are not prepared to send their children or to allow them to
accompany the true lovers of the Holy Prophet
. They stop their children from attending the Sunnah inspired
gatherings of Dawat-e-Islami. They do not give permission to their
children to join the Madani Qafilay. They stop their children from
wearing an Imaama Shareef. They even snatch the Imamma Shareef
from the heads of their children. They do not keep a beard or even allow
their children to keep beards. At times if a true lover of the Holy

Prophet keeps a beard, they sometimes even
trim it while the person is asleep. They insult him by saying that he has
become a Mullah. They do not worry about themselves and even others
and if Allah becomes angry with their behavior and in that place
an earthquake occurs, what would be so surprising about this?
SCIENCE IS HELPLESS
The earthquake is such a catastrophe that in front of it, science is
completely helpless and useless. No power on earth can stop an
earthquake. What is termed an earthquake according to science? As far
as scientific theories are concerned, we completely refuse to accept all
those theories that are against Islamic belief. I am not completely
against science; however, I am against all those theories of science
which contradict the word of the Holy Qur’an and the words of the Holy
Prophet .
THE REASON FOR AN EARTHQUAKE
AlaHazrat has stated that, “Allah has encompassed
the entire world with a mountain. It is called Koo’we Kaaf”. There is
not a single part of the world in which a branch of this mountain is not
found. Like a root which upholds a tree and is spread everywhere and
even if a strong wind comes, it cannot uproot the tree, in like manner the
roots or branches of this mountain. It is also the rule that as high as a
tree is, so much wide spread is its root. In like manner, because the roots
of this mountain are so wide and the mountain is so huge, it needs a
massive place to actually exist. With the Divine command, its roots are
spread everywhere. At times, these roots are even found above ground
like certain trees and wherever these roots are above ground, in that spot
a mountain appears. At times when the root appears and stops in certain
spots above ground, those are considered to be stony ground. The roots
of this mountain are not only above ground but obviously also found
below the earth. There are even earthquakes underground. We have
never heard of Tsunamis, yet today this word is quite common. A
massive tsunami occurred about nine months ago (26/12/04). The most

amount of destruction took place in “Acheh” in the capital of Bandeh
Acheh. Only in this town alone, nearly a hundred thousand people lost
their lives. It has been heard that this took place mostly in those areas
where the sins of people were the most. The waves of tsunami
completely wrapped the area in its grip and completely overturned all
that was in its path. The roots of this Kooweh Kaaf is also well below
the earth and is spread far and wide. Wherever the roots of this
mountain exist, the earth above it is considered very soft and fragile.
Wherever Allah intends for an earthquake to occur, He
commands this same mountain to shake its roots. An earthquake will
only occur in those places where this mountain has shaken its roots. If
this mountain is commanded to slightly shake its root, a minor tremor
would occur and if it is commanded to shake its roots vigorously, a
massive earthquake would appear in those places. At times, a minor
tremor would occur as was experienced recently at Baab-ul-Madina
Karachi and no casualties were heard of. This is also the Infinite
Wisdom of Allah . At times, a slight shaking is felt, at times
merely the walls of a house shakes, its windows and at times even
plaster from a wall actually falls. At times the earth actually opens up
and water appears from it and at times fire actually appears and the
sound emanating from this occurrence increases in volume. At times,
steam and smoke actually appear.

SIX YEAR OLD
MADANI BABY
My Dear Islamic Brothers! It is the Divine Will of Allah that he
makes certain people suffer during an earthquake and at times, he saves
people who are in the middle of this earthquake. The Mercy of Allah
is indeed very great. Even in an intense earthquake, He
saves people so that He can display His Infinite Power. Brothers of
Majlis-e-Shura report that in the province of NWFP an Islamic brother
and his wife were killed during the recent earthquake, however their
young child of only six was found still alive after been trapped for 114
hours!

THE FISH WHICH HAS SWALLOWED THE HOOK
In front of Allah , everyone is helpless. One can compare it to a
fish which has just swallowed a hook. The fisherman who has done so
does not mind how far the fish travels, all the time knowing that
eventually it has to return to him when he begins to reel it in. My Dear
Islamic Brothers! All of us have swallowed the hook of death. No
matter how much you are in power, how much degrees or certificates
you may possess. How rich you are and how much of property you have,
death will eventually come to you and it will come without any warning
whatsoever.
THE REINS IS IN SOMEONE ELSE
S POWER
There is nothing of yours which runs the show. The reins which control
you are in someone else’s power. No one wishes to get sick. They
continue to obey every instruction of the medical people and yet still
they get sick. Children are protected against every type of illnesses such
as polio etc. and yet they still continue to get sick. Nobody wants to get
old; everyone wants to remain forever young. Yet, as they continue to
live, they get older. Old age is a combination of many trials. Only an old
person understands the value of been young. Today, the young people
are living without care and the ones who are old, live in regret. The
young people while enjoying their young age, live it in oblivion while
the old people continue to remember their young days and weep with
regret. The young are oblivious yet the old people know that their
younger days will never return. His days are filled with torment about
the coming of death. His mouth is open while he waits for death.
TREMOR FELT IN
CLIFTON
My Dear Islamic Brothers! An earthquake is a lesson for us. No doubt
that it occurs because of Divine command. As long as Allah does
not wish for it, an earthquake will not occur. Where there is a lot of sin,
if Allah wishes, in that place an earthquake will occur. Even the
people around Baab-ul-Madina were warned recently when a minor
tremor was felt. In other words, be aware and be careful. When I heard

about the tremors that were felt in Clifton, I also understood that in that
place there was a lot of nakedness and people walking around without
any covering. It is considered as a centre for nakedness and un-Islamic
behaviour. Perhaps these tremors were felt so that it could serve as a
warning to these people. Yet, how unfortunate, who will listen to this
warning?
THE PUNISHMENT IN THE GRAVE IS EVEN MORE SEVERE THAN AN
EARTHQUAKE
My Dear Islamic Brothers! For some in the world, an earthquake is a
serious form of punishment, yet for those who are wise, it is a form of
warning and lesson. Also bear in mind that not everyone who suffers in
an earthquake is someone who is filled with sin, however, when it
occurs, it overtakes everyone like how I have spoken about that lady
who never stopped anyone from doing wrong and when the punishment
came, it even overtook her also.
Remember! Self excuse and merely thinking about one self will not do.
If it becomes waajib to stop someone from doing evil and if one does
not do so, then we will also become immersed in divine punishment.
Remember that not only if an earthquake comes it means divine wrath,
even if no punishment comes, one still has to die and one has to enter
the grave. Allah protect us, if the punishment of the grave has to
come, it would be millions of time worse than mere earthquake. There is
no comparison between worldly punishment and the punishment in the
hereafter. The punishment in the world is nothing compared to the
punishment in the grave and it would make an earthquake look an
ordinary thing. In all events, we have to fear Allah .
A
REMEDY FOR EVIL WHISPERING
Some people may question how is it that this terrible earthquake came
in the first ten days of Ramadhaan which is supposed to be a ten days of
mercy. In this matter, we have one question to ask you. Does anyone
become sick in these ten days? If they do and certainly they do become

sick, then this sickness and illness is also a form of hardship. For some,
this illness is a form of punishment so that their bad deeds are nullified
and they increase in status. Were there are no earthquakes; even in those
places there are hospitals where people lie sick. Some are dying; some
suffer from cancer, some from fever and some from headaches. In spite
of the fact that it is the ten days of mercy, yet still daily there are
calamities. Daily people are becoming injured and even dying. This is
also the Divine Wisdom of Allah . At times, this same anxiety and
calamity becomes a means for the sins of the slave to be nullified.
This has been clearly explained in the book “Shar-hus-Sudoor” and the
subject mentioned therein where it is stated that, “At times when Allah
wishes to punish a person in the hereafter, he gives the person
wealth in this world. In like manner, he repays the person in the world
for his good deeds. He makes the person’s children live comfortably,
makes them obedient and submissive, handsome and beautiful and
healthy. His children are comfortable, business is brisk, no one can
seem to take his money, and he has a lot of respect and a very
comfortable life. Even though the pious people have stated that if the
comforts of the world have been opened up to you, then have fear that
perhaps it is not magic. Therefore, also have fear that perhaps you are
not been rewarded in the world for your good deeds. Sometimes this
same comfortable person is even given ease when he is in the last grasp
of life and people around him declare glowingly that he was a person
who did not require anyone in the world. They declare that he just eat a
meal, and spoke in a good environment and suddenly he suffered a heart
attack and with complete ease he died! Remember that at times his
children are given comfort and he is given comfort when he dies so that
he is repaid in the world for his good deeds. Yet, when he arrives in the
grave, he is caught for his wrong doings. It is only him and the hereafter.
The punishment of the hereafter is a million times worse than the
punishment of the world. It cannot be explained by merely using one’s
intellect. Remember that this is all part of the Infinite Wisdom of Allah
. Whosoever He wishes, He will forgive without making him
accountable and whosoever He wishes, He will punish for a small sin.

RISE IN STATUS
At times when Allah wishes to grant a person a high status in the
hereafter, he makes the person suffer from poverty and scarcity. In this
manner, Allah nullifies the person’s sins. At times, He makes the
person go through sickness and illness and even physical deficiencies.
At times, He makes the person extremely short in height and at times,
He makes the person extremely tall. When he is short, he is worried and
when he is tall, he is shocked. The short person wishes that he is tall and
the tall person wishes that he is short. Some people are lame, some
cannot speak properly, some are deaf and some dumb. Everyone is
worried and concerned about his physical deficiency, not thinking that
perhaps this is a means for his rise in status in the hereafter. Most do not
even think that perhaps Allah makes them like this so that He
may nullify their sins. If they have more sins, then they might suffer
during their last moments in this world. At times, the soul leaves the
person after a couple of days and the person is in severe pain. In this
manner, certain people are given punishment for their sins in this world
and in the hereafter; they meet their Creator in a state where they have
no sins at all. For them, there is only the Mercy of the Almighty. We
seek goodness from Allah in both worlds.
MASJID
UL
HARAAM
Look at Masjid-ul-Haraam where every moment, the Mercy of Allah
descends. This is a place that is surrounded by Divine Mercy.
Even in this place certain things have occurred. The incidents
surrounding Yazeed are very famous. It is said that when this tyrant
ordered the attack on Mecca, fire bombs were hurled at the Ka’ba which
resulted in the ghilaaf (the holy cloth) around the Ka’ba been burned.
Even that spot which marked the place where the ram from Heaven
arrived for Hazrat’e Ismail and the horns which were placed
on the roof of the Holy Ka’ba was also burned to ashes. In this Holy
place, such terrible things were committed by Yazeed.

MASJID
UN
NABAWI
In like manner, Divine Mercy continues to descend every minute in the
Holy masjid of the Prophet . Yet, even in this
Holy Place, the troops of Yazeed, actually tied their horses inside the
Masjid. They even selected certain companions of the Holy Prophet
and martyred them, even though these companions
are walking symbols of Divine Mercy.
PROPHETS
The Bani Israel martyred many Prophets of Allah , even
though these Prophets were also walking symbols of Divine Mercy. Not
only that, but merely speaking about them a cause for Divine Mercy.
May Allah bless them and forgive us through them.
THE INCIDENT OF
KARBALA
In the incident of Karbala, Imam Hussain and his
companions were martyred while they were still thirsty even though
they are also symbols of Divine Mercy. They were pious people; they
were children of the blessed companion’s . Imam Hussain
was also a Sahaba and a beloved grandson of the Holy
Prophet . Speaking about him also allows
Divine Mercy to descend upon us. I am hopeful that at this very moment
divine mercy is descending because it has been stated that, “When the
pious people are spoken about, the Divine Mercy of the Allah
descends”. May Allah bless them and forgive us through them.
THE
LEADER OF THE
PROPHETS
When we recite Durood Shareef, Divine Mercy descends simply
because the Holy Prophet
is not only a symbol
of divine mercy but also the one who distributes divine mercy. Even the
Holy Prophet was tested with trials, injuries
and sickness.
Whatever type of trial comes is also a means of pain. The Holy Prophet
also experienced pain. Therefore, if this

earthquake appeared in the holy month of Ramadhaan, so what? There
is no doubt that there is untold Divine wisdom in this incident. When it
comes to Imaan (faith), we are people who close our eyes and accept,
we are not people who question.
THE TRIALS OF THE WORLD
If a person is hit by a bus and damaged to pieces, if his intestines appear
outside his body and his stomach is torn, even though for a few
moments, we are stricken by pity and shock, yet we do not question
why this happened in Ramadhaan. Why did this happen during the days
of Mercy? There is no doubt that because the earthquake was a major
incident, people were affected by it and due to this, some began to
question. They even caused others to question and created such
confusion. Even though, there is no difference between a person who is
killed by a bus and someone who is buried alive in an earthquake. In
like manner, someone who falls from his roof, or someone who is killed
by a bomb which is very common these days. The bombers do not go on
holiday during Ramadhaan or even take leave on the day of Eid. They
certainly do not take holidays. In the world today, many people are
injured and become sick and these things even occur during the days of
Mercy. When people become sick or injured, one cannot also say that
this happened because the person was been punished. Sometimes
calamity comes on a person to merely increase his status. At times,
people suffer financial loss in this earthquake, some are smashed to
pieces, some injured, some are lost and then found, some suffer extreme
fear. All this sometimes happen so that a person’s sins are forgiven and
his or her status is elevated.
In Sura Shurah, verse 30, Allah states,
AlaHazrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan translates this by
sayinb, “The calamity which descends on you is a result of your own
hands and many are forgiven.”

From this we come to know that at times a calamity is because of sins
and disobedience. There are many sins and transgression which Allah
in His Divine Mercy forgives and pardons. We cannot say that
everyone who suffered during the earthquake was being punished. Yes,
what we can say is that some were tried and their sins forgiven. Some
people upon whom it was waajib to prohibit others from doing wrong,
did not do so and therefore perhaps this was a form of punishment and
many others were punished for various sins they had committed. In this
manner, their sins were pardoned. Perhaps there were pious people
among them who refrained from sin and for whom this earthquake was
a means for their spiritual elevation. Which Muslim today does not
commit sin? Only the Prophets and Angels are sinless.
Muslims even like me today commit sin, yet this is forgiven by seeking
divine pardon. Perhaps there were Muslims in this earthquake who had
not committed major sins, but because their time in this world was
complete, the earthquake became a means of their death. They were
martyred and then spiritually elevated. As for those who were saved, or
those who were found alive, this earthquake should become a means of
warning for them.
This happens so that they can refrain from sin and it is also a test so that
they do not complain but rather earn reward through patience. Even
certain Ashaab and the Awliyah were also blind and some had physical
defect. Yet, they remained patience and earned a high spiritual status.
Those people who suffered in the earthquake should learn a lesson from
it and refrain from committing future sins. They should be patient in
their loss and injury and earn a lofty status by it. By been ungrateful,
they would lose the reward that is destined for them.
My Dear Islamic Brothers! Even some brothers from Dawat-e-Islami
also became lost in this recent earthquake. Yet, Ahamdu-Lillah ;
they were found very quickly and were also safe. We will present three
episodes on this very issue.

THE BENEFIT OF WRITING
YA
RASOOL
ALLAH
From Laandhi Baab-ul-Madina, seventeen Islamic brothers who were on
a 30 day Madani Qafila report the following: Our Madani Qafila was
camped in Jamia Masjid Ghousia in Abbaspur in Kashmir. On the 3rd
of Ramadhaan 1426ah, our Qafila after performing Fajr and Ishraaq was
relaxing when a major tremor took place. Everyone awoke and by this
time the walls of the masjid had already cracked. However, all we can
say is that such is the miracle of Ya Rasool-Allah
and its writing that the south wall on which was written “Ya
Rasool-Allah ” was saved and did not fall.
Even the ceiling which fell on it still remained on it. In this way, every
hair on our body was saved and we successfully escaped. When we
were outside, on every side, houses had collapsed. The air was filled
with screams and the moans of people. Every where people were buried.
Some had already died and others were in their last moment. We joined
others and began to assist. In front of the Masjid there was a house and
in this house we found a little girl of nearly a year and half of age alive
in the rubble. We took part in the funeral of many martyrs and assisted
in their burial. Because of our effort and work, many people began to
admire Dawat-e-Islami and had great admiration for its mission.
2.
HE FOUND HIMSELF IN THE JAWS OF DEATH FOR A SECOND TIME
It is reported that nineteen Islamic brothers in a Madani Qafila from
Shah Faisal colony and Maleer were also camped in one of the Masjids
in Qaadirabad Kashmir. They report: During our rest, five Islamic
brothers were in the Masjid while four of them had gone outside. On the

of Ramadan at about 9:45am a major earthquake took place. The

Islamic brothers scaled a wall of about 5 foot and found themselves in
open ground. On all sides there were the sounds of the effects of the
earthquake. When they turned around, they were shocked to see a most
amazing and frightening sight. The entire mountain had collapsed on the
town. When the dust had cleared, they were also amazed to see that
there was no masjid; neither was there any houses standing. All the

beautiful houses had collapsed. It was like a minor day of judgement. It
looked like no one had survived this calamity. Walking and stumbling
along, the Islamic brothers arrived in Nazrabad. The same story seemed
to have occurred here also. When they had regained their senses, they
also assisted others. They also took part in iftaar and performed their
Maghrib Salaah in a masjid which had just a little of the actual building
still standing. When they left the masjid, another major tremor took
place and the balance of the masjid (where they had been standing) fell
to the ground. In this way, they were saved for a second time. A
newspaper column reported after this that because these Islamic brothers
had gone there with a sincere intention, Allah had saved them.
3.
THEY WERE BURIED ALIVE
An Islamic brother reports the following: Twelve Islamic brothers in a
Madani Qafila were stationed at Masjid-e-Nind rai in the area of Nind
rai in Kashmir. After resting on the 3
of Ramadan, it was decided to

have Madani Mashwara (Madani discussion). At the command of the
Ameer, eight Islamic brothers got ready, whereas I and four other
brothers due to laziness decided to busy ourselves by making our beds
in a Madrassa next door. Suddenly we felt as if we were on a train. We
awoke shocked while all the doors and walls were shaking furiously. In
panic, we ran however suddenly a massive hole in the ground appeared
and we fell on our faces. We did not even have time to recover when
again another tremor took place and the walls and the ceiling fell on top
of us. Everywhere there was darkness while all the sunlight disappeared.
We realised that we had been buried alive and in panic, all the time
crying we began to read the kalimah shareef. It seemed as if we would
never escape and we began to stamp our feet and perform all types of
acts that people would perform in extreme panic. Suddenly, below the
feet of one of the Islamic brothers, a hole appeared and then it became
bright with sunlight. We managed to escape one by one through this
same hole. As for those other Islamic brothers who had obeyed the
command of the Ameer, they had managed to leave the Masjid safely
long before us.

THE RESULT OF NON
OBEDIENCE
Because the eight Islamic brothers had practiced on the “rest” as
instructed by the Madani Qafila, they suffered no hardship. As for those
four brothers who had been lazy they were buried alive. Yet, with the
blessings of the Madani Qafila, they also successfully escaped.
Allah clearly shows that there are some people who face death
and escape and there are some who might be in mighty forts, yet, when
their time comes, they cannot escape death. They cannot find any means
or road of escape.
Allah declares in Surah Jumua, verse 8,
Translation Kanzul Imaan:
“Say to them (O Mohammed), the death
from which you run, you will certainly receive it.”
THE PERSON WHO PHONED WHILE HE WAS STANDING IN THE DEBRIS
OF THE EARTHQUAKE
An Islamic brother who was in charge of the division mushawarat was
in the debris of the earthquake. It was fortune that I spoke to him 23
hours after the earthquake had occurred. The poor brother was in
extreme pain and while listening to him, I was very pained. Weepingly
he mentioned to me that his mother was injured. His brother had broken
an arm and his late nephew was lying in front of him. I also spoke to his
brother who had severely broken his shoulder. I also spoke to his ailing
mother and with great difficulty she spoke a few words. I comforted
them and made Dua for them. They pleaded that whosoever could
escape the area should do so. They also mentioned that they had neither
food nor any medicine. They had no medical people to assist them and
all they could do was stand in the rubble of their home. The weeping
and crying of little children also pained me very much.
FINANCIAL AID TO THE VICTIMS OF THE EARTHQUAKE
The massive earthquake which took place on the 3
of Ramadhaan

certainly shocked people. Alhamdu-LIllah Dawat-e-Islami

immediately started relief work. According to my information, until
now, nearly 200 trucks filled with millions of rupees of aid arrived in
parts of Kashmir, NWFP and Punjab. (Up till the writing of this book,
nearly 645 trucks had arrived with aid – Majlis Maktaba-tul-Madina).
Thousands of Islamic brothers from Dawat-e-Islami were busy
gathering aid. Up until now, many Islamic brothers have assisted in the
recovery and burial of many people in NWFP and Kashmir. They are
also rehabilitating numerous orphans through education and giving
people goods which could assist them in their daily living. There are
many physicians, orthopedic specialists and eye specialists from Dawat-
e-Islami busy in this area. Together with operating theaters and
pharmacies, many Islamic brothers are present and are busy assisting.
Even now, more and more goods are been sent daily. Alhamdu-Lillah
even many brothers from Baab-ul-Madina (Karachi) have gone to
the earthquake area. Nigraan-e-Shura and Haji Ubaid Raza ibn Attar are
also there. May Allah accept the efforts of these people.
BEWARE OF THUGS
My Dear Islamic Brothers! One should also display wisdom when
helping these people affected by the earthquake. If for example
someone’s ceiling has fallen, then fix his ceiling. If his wall has
collapsed, then fix this. Do not give money to anyone because even
thugs have appeared on the scene. They are even visiting Baab-ul-
Madina (Karachi). Since it is the month of Ramadhaan, Muslims by
nature give even more charity. You may have even seen that in these
days, poor people seem to increase. Some even hold their x-rays in their
hands within the Masjid and make people standing next to them appear
like they are crying merely to get money. Today it seems that instead of
fake sick people, there seem to be more fake survivors of the earthquake
present. They even cry and state that they are Kashmiris. They claim
that they have survived from the rubble of the earthquake. They even
claim that they have survived merely to suffer and that all their family
has been killed. Some claim that they are from certain parts of Kashmir
or certain parts of NWFP. Some claim their mothers are sick, their sons

are in hospital, and their businesses have been destroyed. Some even
declare that they used to own many properties and that everything has
been destroyed and now they are in need of little help. These people are
certainly very good actors, therefore, think carefully before helping.

HE DEFINITION OF MORNING AND EVENING
From the passing of half the night until the first rays of the sun is seen is
considered to be morning. Whatever is read in this period is considered
as having read it during the morning. From the first period of Zohar
until sunset is considered to be evening. Whatever is read in this period
is considered as having been read in the evening.
AN EASY WAY TO PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST CALAMITY
You may acquire a pocket size booklet entitled ‘40 Spiritual cures’ from
Maktaba-tul-Madina. You should actually buy more than one copy and
pass it on to others for the continuous reward of your deceased family
members. There are many simple verses in this booklet. For example it
is mentioned that if one reads daily seven times during the time of
Asr, In’shaa-Allah he will be protected against calamity. It is also
mentioned that if one writes on the wall, In’shaa-Allah , that
wall would remain safe.

saved while other rooms attached to it were destroyed. With the result
that my nephew was martyred and my mother and brother were severely
injured.”

HE MANNER IN WHICH YOU SHOULD WRITE
It is my Madani advice that by writing on the wall, there is a possibility
that it could be wiped off and therefore constitutes disrespect. Therefore,
one should write this on a frame and hang it on each wall. It is even
better if you could have this engraved on a tile and place it on every
wall. One should strive to do this when building a new house.

FEW SHOCKING INCIDENTS DURING THE EARTHQUAKE
My Dear Islamic Brothers! AlaHazrat in his Fatawa-e-
Razawiyyah, V27, P93, states that, “The actual reason for an earthquake
is due to people’s sins.” In today’s time there seems to be a flood of sin
and disobedience. Aside from refraining from doing bad, even the earth
has become small for those who do good and try to practice upon the
Sunnah. How tragic that even on the 3
of Ramadhaan there were
rd
people who were performing sin while this earthquake destroyed a large
part of Pakistan. Read the following thought provoking accounts
narrated by some of the Madani brothers and sincerely seek repentance.
1.
HE THREW A BABY INTO A PRESSURE COOKER
It is recorded that in Kashmir there was a person who had 5 children and
his wife was about to give birth to their sixth child. One day he told his
wife that if she gave birth to another girl, he would kill both of them. On
the third night of Ramadhaan, another girl was born. In the morning in
spite of screams from the mother, this merciless father took the new
born child and threw it into a pressure cooker and increased the heat.
Suddenly the pressure cokker blew up and at the same time the
earthquake also occurred. While everyone was looking, the same
merciless father was swallowed up into the earth. The injured mother
was saved and perhaps it is because of her that this incident was
revealed.

ANCING AND SINGING CONTINUED
On the 3
of Ramadhaan in a building called “Maargalah towers”
rd
certain Muslims in a state of drunkenness were together with Jews and
Christians dancing and singing. They had no respect for Ramadhaan and
were busy drinking. They were totally oblivious of the hereafter and
were busy in this evil when the earthquake struck. The earthquake
transformed the entire joy and happiness of this people into sadness and
regret.
3.
A
SEVERED HEAD
It is also reported that in the ruins of this same tower, a person’s head
was found. They could not find the body and people around reported
that when the Azaan was heard, this same person used to increase the
volume of his music.
4.
N
AKED CORPSES
In the city of Muzaffarabad (Kashmir), it is stated that naked corpses of
three boys and one girl was found in the bathroom area. Due to this
massive earthquake, thousands of people were buried alive and in a few
minutes many villages and towns were turned into rubble. The
earthquake did not only destroy the beautiful scenery of certain parts of
Kashmir but also killed many families and left many homeless. It is said
that after the earthquake, many bodies were found in various places

around Kashmir and NWFP. Daily there were mass burials and those
who survived could only regret the loss of their family members.
5.

WO SEVERED HANDS
It is stated that a bus once left Muzaffarabad for Islamabad when
suddenly a snake was found inside. Some one picked it up with an
umbrella and threw it outside. It fell on a passing motor cyclist and bit
him on the hand. The bus stopped and many people went outside to see
what was happening. In the mean time the motor cyclist continued to
suffer and in a few minutes he died. The army who was helping the
earthquake victims also arrived to see what was happening. When they
opened the bag of the cyclist, they were surprised to see that inside this
bag were two severed hands of someone who still had golden bangles
on them. It was thought that during the earthquake, this cyclist had tried
to steal the bangles from this dead woman but found it difficult to
remove these golden bangles from a dead corpse. Because he was afraid
of anyone seeing him, he instead decided to cut off the hands and put it
inside his bag. Yet, how could this unfortunate person realise that his
death was very near. It was such a thought provoking way to die.
6.
W
ORMS WERE FOUND ON CORPSES
The Madani Qafila also managed to clothe many corpses with shrouds,
performed their funeral salaah and also assisted in their burial. An
Islamic brother states that he found nearly 33 corpses under rubble.
There were three corpses who already had worms inside them. There
were many corpses floating on the Neelam River because of which the
water had changed color and had become smelly.
7.

HE REGRET OF THOSE WHO HAD SURVIVED
The Madani Qafila also met many individuals who had lost their entire
families. The search and loss in their eyes could hardly disappear. These
were those survivors who had seen their entire families in the jaws of
death. Their hardship could hardly be imagined. The earthquake left in
its tracks, death, loss and total destruction. My Dear Islamic brothers!
Look at the condition of those who once lived in massive houses,

beautiful gardens and wide open farms. Their existence was obliterated
and now there are only them and their deeds.
8.

WO MYSTERIOUS MEN
An Islamic brother from Muzaffarabad swears that, “My uncle
(mother’s brother) was found alive in the rubble after 33 hours.
Trembling with fear, he revealed that, ‘When I was buried alive in the
rubble, suddenly two mysterious religious looking men appeared. When
they saw me, they began to laugh and said, ‘Say! What should we do
with you? Your children would become orphans and yet you would be
able to do nothing about it. Remember that everything of yours would
be left in this rubble’ When I heard this I began to tremble with fear and
also began to weep.’”
9.

ORE REBELLION INSTEAD OF REPENTING
On the 3
of Ramadhaan when nearly 250 Islamic brothers from Dawat-
rd
e-Islami arrived at the disaster area with aid and assistance, everywhere
there was death, destruction and utter chaos. High buildings were
destroyed and many Masjids were also martyred. Thousands had
already died. Many families with children had to spend the night under
the sky in freezing and cold weather without any shelter whatsoever.
The Madani brothers in this instance also report that they met many
individuals who instead of gaining any lesson and message from this
disaster began to utter words of kufr and became murtads (apostates).
There were many people in the NWFP area that got caught in the trap of
Satan and began to argue with the Divine command of Allah .
They also uttered many words of kufr. May Allah give such
people the strength to repent and renew their Imaan. In the city of
Muzaffarabad, there were also many people who actually stopped
reading their salaah and even refrained from keeping their fast. These
people were seen openly eating and drinking in the month of
Ramadhaan and even hotels were freely opened.
How tragic that today when a small tragedy hits us or a small difficulty
visits us, we begin to continuously complain. Remember that trials and

tribulations will certainly come upon Muslims. Sometimes this comes in
the form of sickness, lack of livelihood, sometimes through children,
sometimes through friends and sometimes through strangers. Sometimes
it comes through been shot, sometimes through bombs, sometimes
through storms and sometimes through earthquakes. Every Muslim
should be prepared for these tests and should not allow complains to
take over. Remember that the reward is as great as the test and
tribulation. Allah states in Sura Ankabut, Verses 1 and 2,
Translation Kanzul Imaan:
“Do people think that we would leave
them because they had (merely) accepted the faith without them been
tested?”

HE REWARD FOR CONCEALING YOUR DIFFICULTIES
Hazrat’e Sayyiduna ibn Abbas narrates that The Holy
Prophet has stated that, “When a difficulty
comes in a person’s life and property and he conceals (this difficulty),
and he does not reveal it in front of people, it becomes a responsibility
on Allah to forgive that person.” In another narration it is stated
that, “Whatever difficulty comes to a person whether in the form of
tiredness, sickness, sadness and depression even if a thorn pricks him,
(these difficulties) become a source of payment for his sins.”

Nearly 17 local centers were setup

by Dawat-e-Islami after the 3
of Ramadhaan 1426ah in various towns

and cities such as Muzaffarabad, Rawalkot, Daheerkot, Jaatilah, Hajirah,
Abbaspur, Baag and Kahotah in Kashmir, in NWFP, in Abbotabad,
Mansoorah, Pir giraam, Balakot, Sawaat, Shaangilah, and Habeebullah
etc. There were other numerous satellite offices also set up under these
main offices. The running of these centers was done from the main
central centre set up in G11 Islamabad. Through these centers, nearly
619 truck load of assistance in various forms such as dried food, other
types of foods, beds, blankets, tents, medicines and clothing were sent
to the affected masses using nearly 619 trucks.
Medical assistance:
Medical centers were also organised in these
various centers by Dawat-e-Islami especially in areas such as
Muzaffarabd within Shaheed lane, in Abbotabad in the Ayub Medical
complex, in Balakot within the Shah Alam market. In the main centre in
G11 Islamabad, thousands of people received medical treatment that
were injured or sick. Hundreds of doctors in the form of a Qafila were
dispatched who were also accompanied by millions of rupees worth of
medicine, surgery and surgical equipment. Alhamdu-Lillah .
Organised meals:
Dried food has reached most places, however
there were certain areas where food was prepared day and night and
then distributed among the needy. This was done in the Pims Hospital;
Islamabad where nearly 1700 people were daily fed Sehri and Iftaar. In
Balakot, a special kitchen was set up. In the town of Muzaffarabad,
three Attari tents were set up where dried food was daily distributed.
Burial and ghusl:
Many Madani Qafilay were sent to assist in
retrieving corpses from the rubble with necessary supplies. They
retrieved many corpses from the rubble, covered these corpses with a
shroud, performed the funeral salaah and had these people buried. This

was also done in Muzaffarabad in the government Pilot School No 1
where 145 corpses were retrieved and then buried according to Islamic
ritual.
Aid to those who were entitled for it:
The Madani Qafila also
walked to those far flung areas where vehicles could not reach. They
made a list of the affected families and then distributed help and
assistance to them. By using jeeps, they also managed to go to remote
areas and villages and delivered assistance. An effort was also made to
record these activities. In Hajeerah, the army was so impressed by this
record of Dawat-e-Islami that they also decided to help and assist.
Help without bias:
This help and assistance was not only given to
those associated with Dawat-e-Islami but it was delivered to every
person who was affected by this disaster.
Building of Masajid:
Because of this earthquake, not only houses
but also many Masajid were also martyred. Due to this immense
hardship and not having any Masjid around, many people became
oblivious of their salaah. In this serious time, Dawat-e-Islami organised
daily salaah, Qur’anic reading and taraweeh. This happened in Razakot
(Balakot) where members of Dawat-e-Islami were the first people, six
days after the earthquake who recited Durood and Salaam after the
Azaan using a speaker. They also performed the salaah in congregation.

After this massive earthquake, many organisations and NGOs started
their aid and help schemes. However, due to them not having a strong
network and because some were working alone, many of them could not
continue their work. Due to this, many NGO’s appealed to Dawat-e-
Islami to send some Islamic brothers to their assistance and to organise
some goods. Dawat-e-Islami assisted many of these NGO’s with
personnel and with goods.

These people certainly had a very high opinion of Dawat-e-Islami and
we present some of their remarks.
1.
The people at Abbotabad within the Ayub Medical Complex clearly
contested the transfer of Dawat-e-Islami from their area. They clearly
remarked that the removal of Dawat-e-Islami from their complex would
clearly slow down their progress in helping people.
2.
In Hajirah (Kashmir), the army was so impressed by the work of
Dawat-e-Islami that they even transferred some of their goods to Dawat-
e-Islami. They even requested a copy of the recorded help and records
of Dawat-e-Islami so that it could also help them.
3.
In the area of Baag (Kashmir) the army was so impressed by the
activities of Dawat-e-Islami that they not only offered Dawat-e-Islami
their offices but also assisted with relief goods.
4.
Various organisations in different areas were also so impressed by
Dawat-e-Islami that they with their relief material decided to distribute
as a joint mission at the offices of Dawat-e-Islami.
5.
Many sick and injured were also highly impressed with Dawat-e-
Islami at the Pims Hospital in Islamabad and offered their thanks while
they wept with appreciation. They also stated that even the hospital staff
was not as caring as members of Dawat-e-Islami. Islamic brothers went
from ward to ward distributing food and they even clothed those
without clothes and actually hand fed orphans, injured people and old
people.
6.
It is stated that in H11 where a tent was erected on behalf of the CDA
named Attari tent, a special meeting was held between various relief
organisations, NGOs etc. The chairperson of the CDA during the
meeting, made an Islamic brother of Dawat-e-Islami stand up and in a
harsh tone mentioned to everyone present that, “If you wish to assist,
then you should work like these people”. (Meaning Dawat-e-Islami).
7.
During a tour of the Attari camp, the chairperson of the CDA
remarked that, “To me it seems that only Dawat-e-Islami is working.”

8.
Al Masoom International Trust UK mentioned among other things
that, “We were highly impressed by Dawat-e-Islami. We will also
mention this to the relief committee of the government that they should
work like Dawat-e-Islami”. They were so impressed that five members
of their delegation became mureeds of Ameer-e-AhleSunnat.
9.
The A.C. of Islamabad was also highly overwhelmed by Dawat-e-
Islami. He mentioned that, “The young people of Dawat-e-Islami and
their work is certainly something that should be admired and envied.”
10.
The prime minister of Kashmir, Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan also
visited the relief camp of Dawat-e-Islami set up in Faroord Kahootah.
He also mentioned that, “If ever someone had performed the most
amount of relief assistance in Kashmir, it was Dawat-e-Islami. It was
also Dawat-e-Islami who had first arrived in areas such as Muzaffarabad,
Baag, and Faroord Kahootah etc.”
11.
The chairperson of the Ulema council in Faroord Kahootah, Hadrat
Moulana Mohammed Aalim Razavi stated that, “The relief work of
Dawat-e-Islami had certainly reached those who were 100% entitled for
it.”
12.
The minister of interior, Aftaab Sher Paawo also visited the relief
camp in H 11, Islamabad. He was so impressed by the work of Dawat-e-
Islami that twice he patted the backs of those present. He stated, “The
CDA and other relief organisations are also working, however, the work
performed by Dawat-e-Islami is very impressive”.
13.
The minister of education Kashmir, Choudry Mohammed Aziz
mentioned that, “The work performed by Dawat-e-Islami for those
affected by the earthquake is something that could not be performed by
others. When I visited Muzaffarabad, it was Dawat-e-Islami I saw, when
I visited Baag, it was the same. At places, the brothers of Dawat-e-
Islami even used their Imaama Shareef as a shroud”. He also mentioned
that the relief work of Dawat-e-Islami had also reached those who were
100% entitled for it.

In the area of Faroord Kahhotah, an army major visited the offices
of Dawat-e-Islami. On this visit he mentioned that, “The manner in
which Dawat-e-Islami in distributing relief is the same manner in which
the army also distributes its relief.”

The deputy of Kashmir Choudry Liaqat Husain stated at a press
conference that, “The relief system of Dawat-e-Islami especially in
matters of burial and washing the dead is certainly very admirable.”

The assistant director of Education (Kashmir) also mentioned that
the immense work of Dawat-e-Islami is something to be admired.

NCIDENTS OF

Incident 1: An owner of a hotel in Balakot narrates, “All the buildings
around my hotel were destroyed. However, Alhamdu-Lillah my
hotel was saved. It is my opinion that the reason for this was that on the
wall there was a card from Dawat-e-Islami on which was written
Durood and Salaam. Please bear in mind that the relief offices of
Dawat-e-Islami in Balakot were actually in this same hotel which was
offered by the owner. Relief work in the form of assistance, medical
help and feeding was distributed from here.

Incident 2: An Islamic brother narrates that, “I was sitting in my P.C.O.
with two other people while in Muzaffarabd. During the tremor, both of
them in a state of terror decided to run. I also stood up in shock but
instead of running I stood there terrified simply because the two people
who had run out were suddenly buried by a falling wall. At the same
time, the calendar distributed by Dawat-e-Islami which had “Allah and
His Messenger are enough for me”
written on it fell from the wall. I immediately picked up the calendar
feeling hurt and holding it to my chest I screamed, “Ya Rasool-Allah
! I give myself to you.” I continued to mention
this while standing in my shop. Allah for the sake of His Beloved
gave me liberation from this trauma I was
going through”.

Incident 3: Nearly the entire area of Muzaffarabad was in ruin. Those
buildings which had not yet been destroyed were also unfit to stay in.
However, Alhamdu-Lillah the Madani Markaz called Faizan-e-
Madina in Muzaffarabad remained intact. Even though some parts of the
walls had cracked, no other damage was caused. At this moment, the
relief offices are also in these same offices. Five daily Salaah is also
performed here with Jama’at, as well as Taraweeh and I’tikaak in
congregation. Alhamdu-Lillah , Jamia Masjid Siddiqui (Shaukat
lines Muzaffarabad) which has been donated by Dawat-e-Islami is also
safe.
Alhamdu-Lillah all the mazaars are also safe. The mazaaraat of
Hazrat’e Baala Peer (Balakot), Hazrat’e Syed Sakhi Suhaili Sarkaar
(Jalalabad), Hazrat’e Syed Shah Sultan, Hazrat’e Syed Inayat Shah
(within the city in Eidgah Road still remains even though the city has
been destroyed), Syed Alawudeen Geelani (near the Eidgah in Gulshan
colony), Syed Anwar Shah (Lohaar plate), Jumua Shah Baaji (Amboor),
Peer Muhammad Ali Shah (Kaamboori), Hazrat’e Sayyiduna Abdur
Rahman Shah (Ranjaatah)
are still intact. May
Allah bless them and forgive us for their sake.
